Montefalco DOC is a denomination that includes the entire territory of the Municipality of Montefalco and part of the territory of the Municipalities of Bevagna, Castel Ritaldi, Giano dell'Umbria and Gualdo Cattaneo in the province of Perugia.
The specification provides for the production of both white and red wines. As far as Montefalco Rosso DOC is concerned, the legislation provides for a minimum of 60/70% of Sangiovese, 10/15% of Sagrantino and for the remaining part other non-aromatic red berried vines authorized in the province of Perugia. The Montefalco Rosso DOC wine must age at least 18 months and the Riserva version at least 30 months, of which 12 in wood.
