Description
What kind of wine is it
L'Avvocata di Coppo is a Barbera d'Asti, a red wine with a bright ruby-red color. Its style is carefree and youthful, focused on juiciness and freshness. The name has a curious backstory: it goes back to the first owner of the vineyards and a stern, authoritative lawyer; it's almost amusing that such a light Barbera evokes such a serious figure.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the southern Asti area in Piedmont, from vineyards at an altitude of 200–250 meters with south, southeast and southwest exposures. The soil is clay-limestone marl with a predominance of silt. These conditions give Barbera full fruit and lively acidity.
How it is made
Harvest takes place in September, with selection in the vineyard of the healthiest, ripest grapes, picked by hand. Maceration on the skins involves short, gentle pump-overs. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages in steel. This approach preserves the freshness of the fruit and the clarity of the aromas.
Tasting notes
In the glass it shows a bright ruby-red hue. On the nose it offers red fruits and black cherry, with floral notes of violet. On the palate it is juicy and fresh, with a smooth, immediate sip.
What to pair it with
It pairs well with pasta with ragù and lightly aged cheeses. It also works with more distinctive dishes, such as cuttlefish with peas, where its freshness supports the sweetness of the dish. It's a versatile red for everyday cooking as well.
When to serve it
It's a wine for everyday meals and informal tables, when you're after a fresh, easy-drinking red. Serve in a medium-sized red wine glass. There's no need to open it in advance, because its youthful character is enjoyable right away.
