Description
What kind of wine is it
Piper-Heidsieck Cuvée Brut Champagne is produced by Piper-Heidsieck, made from Pinot Noir, Meunier, and Chardonnay. This traditional blend, vinified using the Traditional Method, delivers an elegant and fresh profile, with aromas of ripe fruit and dried fruit. Maturation on the lees for at least 24 months provides structure and finesse, making the wine suitable for both immediate enjoyment and short-term aging.
Where it comes from
This Champagne originates in the Champagne region, between the Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de la Marne. The continental climate with mild summers and cold winters encourages slow ripening of the grapes, preserving their freshness and acidity. The chalky-clay soils imbue a distinct minerality and tension, while traditional agricultural practices and low yields produce concentrated, high-quality grapes.
How it is produced
The grapes for Piper-Heidsieck Cuvée Brut are hand-harvested to preserve grape quality. After gentle pressing, fermentation takes place in stainless steel under controlled temperatures. The three varieties are blended before the second fermentation in the bottle using the Traditional Method. The wine ages on the lees for at least 24 months, developing complexity and a fine mousse. After disgorgement, the house adds a small amount of liqueur d'expédition before the final sealing.
Tasting notes
Piper-Heidsieck Cuvée Brut displays a pale golden yellow color with a fine, persistent perlage. On the nose, there are notes of pear, apple, and ripe citrus fruits, accompanied by hints of almond and toasted hazelnut. On the palate, it is harmonious, with lively acidity providing freshness and lightness. The sip is clean, with a return of white fruit and a savory, long-lasting finish.
Pairings
Piper-Heidsieck Cuvée Brut pairs perfectly with seafood dishes, particularly oysters and raw shellfish such as prawns and scampi. In France, it is enjoyed with Coquilles Saint-Jacques, while in Italy it matches well with seafood risotto. Its freshness and delicate bubbles enhance both simple and elaborate dishes and highlight the subtlety of seafood flavors.
When to serve
This Champagne is ideal to enjoy young, within three years of disgorgement, but thanks to its aging on the lees and the structure of the blend, it can evolve for up to five years. It is best served at 8-10 °C in flutes or Champagne glasses to best appreciate its bubbles and aromatic freshness. Store bottles lying down in a cool, dark place to maintain its characteristics.
