Description
What kind of wine it is
Chiarandà di Donnafugata is a structured white wine produced in Sicily from Chardonnay. The meticulous vinification process enhances the purity of the original grape variety through work carried out in different containers. The result is a captivating profile where the Chardonnay reveals broad expressive richness and carefully balances the softness of the fruit with a pleasantly savory finish.
Where it comes from
This label comes to life in southwestern Sicily within the historic Tenuta di Contessa Entellina. This area, the heart of the Contessa Entellina denomination, enjoys a purely Mediterranean climate. The interaction between the soils and the surrounding environment gives the wine a broad and distinctive taste profile characterized by clear and evident references to the Mediterranean scrub.
How it is produced
The production process begins in the second half of August with manual harvesting in crates and a rigorous selection of the grape clusters. After pressing, the must ferments in steel tanks at a controlled temperature between 15 and 16 °C. The aging process lasts about six months and is divided between the use of oak barriques and tonneaux and small concrete vats, then completed by twelve months of bottle aging.
Tasting notes
It offers a bright golden yellow color on sight. The aromatic bouquet is dense and multifaceted, led by vibrant peach notes interwoven with vegetal scents and hints of vanilla. The tasting experience proceeds elegantly, enriched by subtle nuances of flint. On the palate, it is rich and alluring, distinguished by a full taste profile and a clear, saline finish.
Food pairings
The fullness of this white makes it ideal for accompanying seafood dishes, as it best highlights intensely flavored dishes such as lobster. It is also suitable for pairing with creamy vegetable veloutés thanks to its remarkable structural balance. It elegantly supports the distinctive saltiness of Sicilian cuisine and proves to be an excellent match for traditional pasta con le sarde.
When to serve it
It is recommended when seeking a structured white capable of pairing harmoniously with elaborate fish or vegetable dishes. The extended aging period imparts superb aromatic complexity that enhances the overall finesse of the label. Whether accompanying a well-planned gathering or a formal dinner, it is the perfect choice for enhancing important gourmet pairings with great gustatory precision.
