Description

The Etna Rosso Contrada Monte Serra di Benanti is a precious testimony of the Etna winemaking heritage, coming from the south-eastern side of Etna, within the Municipality of Viagrande. This area benefits from a high hill climate, moderated by its proximity to the Ionian Sea, which is characterized by humidity and rain in the cold season, as well as constant ventilation and high brightness. The vineyards, with ages ranging from 14 years to 100 years, are trained as saplings on small terraces surrounded by dry lava stone walls. The soil, sandy and volcanic, is enriched by "ripiddu" (small pumice skeleton) and minerals, with a sub-acid reaction, offering ideal conditions for the cultivation of Nerello Mascalese, a native variety of Etna.

The harvest of the grapes takes place manually between the end of September and the beginning of October, followed by fermentation in steel at a controlled temperature and a maceration of approximately 21 days, using native yeasts selected after long experimentation. The wine matures in French oak tonneaux for 12 months and is then transferred to steel for a further period before bottling where the refinement continues for another 10 months.

Visually, it has a pale ruby red color, embellished with garnet nuances. On the nose, ethereal and spicy notes emerge, enriched with hints of red fruit. In the mouth, it is dry, full and tannic, with a persistence and harmony that make it an important example in the panorama of Etna wines.

It pairs perfectly with red meats, game and mature cheeses, where its structure and intensity can enhance and enrich the flavor profile of rich and savory dishes.
