Description

What type of wine is it?

Boekenhoutskloof Sémillon comes from the prestigious Franschhoek area. Made from Sémillon grapes, it stands out for the spontaneous fermentation carried out between barriques and concrete eggs. The smooth acidity defines a dry, enveloping style, while the initial absence of added sulfites and the aging at low temperatures preserve its absolute aromatic precision.

Where does it come from?

The wine’s identity lies in the oldest vineyard of South African Sémillon, dating back to 1902. These old vines root in the deep alluvial soils rich in clay in Franschhoek, ensuring consistent and even ripening. This synergy yields a wine with great structure and a clear mineral sensation that identifies its territory of origin.

How is it produced?

The Sémillon grapes are picked in whole bunches and undergo natural fermentations without added sulfites. The wine then rests for fourteen months at low temperatures, divided between new French oak barriques and concrete vats. The measured use of these materials gives harmony to the sip and keeps it resolutely dry and well-defined.

Tasting notes

In the glass, the wine presents a vivid golden yellow hue. The nose reveals clear and inviting aromas, strongly focused on orange blossom, jasmine, and delicate marmalade notes. On the palate it is broad and layered, perfectly balanced between an enveloping structure and restrained acidity. The pronounced minerality leads to a linear finish with a subtle touch of salinity.

Food pairing suggestions

The dense structure of this white makes it ideal for enhancing dishes with decisive flavors. It is excellent with fish soups or richly flavored broths, bringing out the iodized taste of the sea. The enveloping body pairs elegantly with egg-based dishes, while the acidity and persistence offer a delightful contrast with game meats.

Serving suggestions

This is the perfect label when you want to bring a structured white to the table that can accompany the entire meal. The richness of flavor pairs beautifully with flavorful, complex dishes. With its vibrant and refreshing finish, it provides a satisfying drink at the table and rewards those looking for a mineral wine to let evolve slowly in the glass.
