Description

Avignonesi’s Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Late Release is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes sourced from vineyards located in the Pievi of Valiano, Badia, Valardegna, Sant’Ilario and Sant’Albino, in the Montepulciano area. The different soils, of fluvio-lacustrine and marine origin and characterized by clayey, silty and calcareous sandy components, contribute to the wine’s complexity and identity. The special graphic design, created by Avignonesi and Bonvini 1909 with a project by Atelier Bingo, portrays Le Capezzine as a living place, deeply connected to the landscape and its own history: the shapes of the label and packaging recall the estate’s architecture, the profile of the hills and the Tuscan horizon, while the color palette evokes the land’s warm light.

Vinification involves skin macerations that can last up to 30 days, adjusted according to the characteristics of the individual lots. For each lot, a dedicated pied de cuve is prepared and carefully monitored before use, with the aim of promoting the start of fermentation without resorting to selected yeasts and preserving the bond between the wine and the grapes of origin. Ageing takes place over 18 months in large Slavonian oak casks and barriques, followed by a long period of bottle ageing in the estate’s cellars— a central element of the Late Release philosophy, which regards time as an essential tool for accompanying and understanding the evolution of Sangiovese.

In the glass it shows a deep ruby-red color that, with evolution, takes on elegant garnet highlights. The nose offers ripe red fruits, cherry and plum, accompanied by notes of forest floor, spices, Mediterranean herbs and delicate balsamic hints. On the palate it is harmonious and structured, with a silky tannin structure, good freshness and a long, lingering finish that highlights the character of Sangiovese.

It pairs particularly well with flavorful first courses, red meats, roasts, game and aged cheeses.
