Description

What kind of wine it is

Pommard 1er Cru Les Epenots by Parent is a red wine made from Pinot Noir, a grape variety that thrives in clay-limestone soils which fully enhance its varietal profile. It displays an elegant, dense style on the palate, marked by a silky tannic structure and a well-defined balance, designed to provide solid structure without harshness. The production process cleverly combines rigorous temperature control during fermentation with a carefully measured maturation in French oak barrels, ensuring perfect integration of aromatic precision and flavor complexity.

Origin

This red is crafted in the renowned Pommard area, specifically within the 1er Cru Les Epenots designation, a site where the grape finds an ideal home. The vine roots plunge into clay-limestone soils, a key agricultural element that defines the wine’s color intensity and structural backbone. In this particular territory, the synergy between the clay components and the limestone matrix fosters a clearly defined palate progression, ensuring a measured and coherent technical expression.

Production

Vinification starts with a manual harvest, essential for meticulously selecting the best bunches for the cuvée. This is followed by a low-temperature pre-fermentation maceration lasting 3-5 days, gently extracting delicate aromatic components. Next, a temperature-controlled fermentation takes place over 18-20 days to optimally develop structure. The final stage involves 16-18 months of aging in partly new French oak barrels, consolidating overall balance and ensuring a remarkable clarity of expression.

Tasting notes

In the glass it shows a deep ruby red color, an indicator of good concentration and meticulous extraction. The nose is expressive and direct: it opens with clear violet aromas interwoven with hints of cherry and strawberry, shaping an easily recognizable fruity and floral profile. On the palate, it displays an elegant, dense body supported by integrated tannins which guide the progression with a pleasant tactile sensation. The finish offers a noteworthy balance of structure and smoothness that faithfully reflects the grape's identity.

Food pairings

It is particularly well suited to elegant poultry dishes, as fine tannins envelop delicate meats without overwhelming their flavor. It also pairs naturally and harmoniously with mushroom-based recipes, thanks to a sip that can support the aromatic persistence and characteristic texture of these ingredients. Additionally, it is highly effective with aged cheese selections, where flavor harmony and measured structure coherently and satisfyingly balance saltiness.

When to serve

This red is ideal for convivial moments when technical precision and an elegant structure are desired in the glass. Its silky texture and tactile appeal make it perfect for accompanying a rich, flavorful meal all the way through. Thanks to its extended aging in wood, it boasts a solid foundation that guarantees excellent aging potential, allowing it to be enjoyed fully even after some cellar aging. A dedicated tasting session will help reveal every nuance of its aromas and the wine’s poise.
