Description

What kind of wine it is

Rioja Riserva Remírez de Ganuza is a red wine from Rioja, Spain, made primarily from Tempranillo with the addition of Graciano and a small part of Viura and Malvasía skins. The style is structured and complex, with a full profile and elegant tannins. The winemaking process includes fermentation in stainless steel and cement, malolactic fermentation in barriques, and a lengthy aging in French oak barrels, elements that define its precision and depth.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from Rioja, from vineyards located at the foot of the Sierra Cantabria. This terroir, characterized by favorable exposures and natural protection, forms the basis for the selection of plots chosen for the quality of their raw material. The average age of the vines exceeds 60 years, a factor influencing the style thanks to low yields and greater grape concentration. In the glass, the identity of Rioja is expressed in the balance between fruit ripeness and wood integration.

How it is made

Harvesting is done by hand and the grape clusters are cooled for 24 hours in temperature-controlled refrigerated rooms. A manual selection on a sorting table follows to pick only the best part of the grapes. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats and cement tanks, combining control and thermal inertia. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in barriques, then matures for a long period in French oak barrels, helping to define structure, tannic texture, and toasted notes.

Tasting notes

In appearance, it shows a deep, intense red. The nose delivers complex aromas of ripe red fruits, sweet spices, and a delicate touch of toasted wood due to aging in French oak. On the palate it is structured and full-bodied, with elegant, well-integrated tannins. The persistence is long, with a harmonious finish that keeps a balance of fruit, spice, and toasted nuances.

Food pairings

It pairs well with grilled or roasted red meats, game, and aged cheeses, where structure and tannins complement succulence and intensity. It is suitable for traditional meat dishes such as cordero asado, where the spicy notes and oak support the searing. Also ideal with rich and flavorful preparations that enhance the lingering sip and its matured character.

When to serve it

This red is perfect for occasions where you want a glass with significant presence, ideal for structured dishes and dedicated tastings. The extended aging in French oak and the beautifully integrated tannic structure also make it suitable for cellaring, if you wish to follow the evolution of its aromatic profile over time. Served during a dinner of roasts or game, it elevates the spicy notes and aromatic complexity.
