Description
What kind of wine is it?
This red wine from Château Branaire-Ducru is produced in Bordeaux, within the renowned Saint-Julien appellation. It displays a structured and precise style, characterized by dark fruit aromas, well-integrated acidity, and a long finish. Vinification takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperatures with an extended maceration on the skins, followed by a prolonged aging in French oak barriques, with a significant portion of new oak to enhance its complexity.
Where does it come from?
This wine originates from Saint-Julien and is classified as a 4ème Cru Classé within Bordeaux's historic hierarchy. The estate was founded in 1680 by Jean-Baptiste Braneyre, and its current name was completed in 1875 with the arrival of Gustave Ducru. Its modern development and definitive quality consolidation are credited to Patrick Maroteaux, who, since the 1980s, deeply renovated the Château, establishing it among the key labels of the region.
How is it produced?
After harvest and a meticulous manual selection of the grapes, vinification occurs at controlled temperature in twenty-eight stainless steel vats of various sizes. Each container is assigned to a specific plot, allowing targeted management of each vineyard expression. The fermentations occur in stainless steel, and maceration on the skins lasts about twenty-one days. Afterwards, the resulting blend ages for sixteen to twenty months in French oak barriques, sixty to sixty-five percent of which are new.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it reveals a deep purple red, dense and concentrated. The nose displays clear and intense aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry, and blackberry, followed by delicate smoky notes and subtle hints of tobacco. On the palate, the sip is juicy and supported by a well-integrated acidity that balances the wine’s structure. The long, lingering finish closes harmoniously on dark fruit notes.
Food pairings
It pairs beautifully with roasted meats, braised or grilled, both white and red, to complement dishes with bold flavors. Surprisingly suitable with flavorful fish such as tuna, especially when the recipe has a robust structure. At the table, it is also a reliable companion for a roast leg of lamb or beef stew served with its own cooking juices.
When to serve it
It is an ideal choice for important lunches and dinners when you want to bring a structured red wine to the table, capable of complementing rich dishes while maintaining tasting precision. Best enjoyed during convivial moments, when its aromatic profile can fully express its elegant fruity and smoky notes. It is the perfect bottle for those seeking a wine with a classic style, true to the Saint-Julien terroir.
