What kind of wine is it?
Saint-Romain by Joseph Drouhin is a white wine produced in the renowned Burgundy region, located in the heart of the Côte de Beaune. In this specific territorial interpretation, Chardonnay stands out for its fresh and vibrant aromatic profile, able to combine pleasing roundness with a pronounced mineral character. The production process, which includes a careful aging period, helps define a style centered on finesse and depth. This label is a faithful expression of its terroir and offers a well-structured and harmonious tasting experience.
Where does it come from?
The production area is located in the municipality of Saint-Romain, within the charming Côte de Beaune in Burgundy. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of four hundred meters and benefit from optimum sun exposure, favoring perfect ripening of the grapes. The clay-limestone soils play a fundamental role in supporting the tension and precision on the palate, thus enhancing the characteristic mineral note and sensation of freshness. Thanks to these environmental features, Joseph Drouhin crafts a wine oriented toward an elegant and profound register.
How is it made?
Production begins with a meticulous selection of grapes sourced from the Joseph Drouhin family’s estates and trusted partner growers. The manual harvest in perforated crates ensures the integrity of the grape bunches before the slow pressing, carried out using a pneumatic press. Once clarification is complete, the must ferments in oak barrels, with a technique that also includes a percentage of new wood to enrich the aromatic profile. Aging continues for a period of twelve to fourteen months, allowing integration of the structure without overpowering the wine’s liveliness.
Tasting notes
In the glass, the wine displays a bright white gold color with greenish highlights, indicating great clarity and visual precision. On the nose, it opens with refined aromas reminiscent of white flowers and ripe fruits such as plum, then gradually evolves toward warm hints of honey and gingerbread. The entry on the palate is lively and smooth, balanced by an enveloping roundness and well-calibrated in every aspect. The mineral component distinctly defines the finish, as it prolongs the persistence and delivers a tasting experience with a decisive character.
Food pairings
Its natural freshness and mineral nuances make this wine the ideal companion for shellfish and grilled fish, perfectly balancing delicate textures and dry cooking methods. Its intrinsic roundness also harmoniously accompanies white meats and soft cheeses, creating a balanced contrast with the saltiness of the food. In line with Burgundy’s culinary tradition, it is perfect alongside classic recipes such as Burgundy snails, as it offers a clean counterpoint to the richness of butter and aromatic herbs.
When to serve it
This white is the optimal choice for occasions when you wish to bring to the table a fresh, precise, and embracing profile, capable of accompanying the entire meal with great ease. Its prolonged aging in wood makes it suitable for convivial settings that require a perfect balance between gustatory tension and softness. It is well-suited to being opened during elegant lunches or dinners, especially those focused on seafood recipes or delicate dishes. Its finesse is an added value when you want to highlight a dynamic and fulfilling drinking experience.
