Description

What kind of wine it is

Señora de las Alturas from Viña Zorzal is a red wine made from Garnacha grapes in the Navarra region of Spain. It is born from the Pontigos plot, a single vineyard of great historical value, and expresses a dry, fresh, and balanced profile. The winemaking involves fermentation with indigenous yeasts and targeted aging, resulting in a full body and a well-defined structure. The outcome is a glass that harmoniously combines red fruit with earthy notes, supported by a distinctive, recognizable mineral vein.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from Fitero, the only municipality in Navarra located in the Iberian mountain range. The originating vineyard is the Pontigos plot, situated at a boundary between the Sierra de Cameros and the Ebro valley. In this particular geographic context, historic pre-phylloxera Garnacha vines grow, many of which are ungrafted and average one hundred forty years old. This deep connection with the territory is reflected in the glass, offering a red with authentic character and pronounced natural freshness.

How it is produced

Harvesting is done by hand with a rigorous selection of the best bunches in small crates. In the cellar, alcoholic fermentation starts spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts within French barriques, promptly followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine then rests for fifteen months in second-passage barrels, a choice that preserves the fruit's integrity without overwhelming it. Before bottling, a gentle fining and filtration are carried out, without any stabilization in order to preserve its original expressiveness.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it displays a bright garnet color of medium intensity. The nose is clean and enveloping, led by hints of berries and fresh red fruits, accompanied by intriguing earthy and spicy notes. On the palate, it is dry and well balanced, characterized by pronounced acidity and harmonious progression. Consistent fruity returns are accompanied by light green sensations and a pleasant bitter finish, a direct hallmark of the mineral character of this label.

Food pairing

Thanks to its solid structure and well-integrated acidity, this red pairs perfectly with hearty first courses, tasty cured meats, and legume soups. Its dry texture and spicy notes make it an ideal companion for all kinds of grilled meats, as it balances the succulence of the dishes. To fully enhance its Spanish roots, it is recommended to enjoy it with rich traditional dishes such as lamb stews or the classic cordero al chilindrón, where the savoury component of the meat meets the wine's fullness.

When to serve it

This label is the right choice to accompany convivial moments, especially during lunches and dinners focused on rich and structured dishes. The combination of wood aging and the liveliness of the fruit offers a balanced drink, able to easily stand up to bold flavors. It is an ideal wine for those seeking a red with a distinct personality, perfect to uncork when you want to enjoy a glass that marries outstanding freshness of taste with a broad and satisfying body.
