Description

What type of wine is it

Sedàra is a red wine produced in Sicily by Donnafugata, created from a blend of Nero d'Avola grapes enriched with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah. This wine stands out for its fresh, easy-to-approach character, marked by a clear fruity expression. The careful winemaking process ensures soft tannins and an ideal structural balance. The winery's style combines immediacy and technical precision, offering an authentic and balanced interpretation of the Sicilian terroir.

Where does it come from

The grapes are sourced from the Tenuta di Contessa Entellina, located in the heart of southwestern Sicily. The label pays homage to Angelica Sedàra, the protagonist of the film "Il Gattopardo." In this Mediterranean context, the choice of grape varieties blends local roots with international varieties to define its aromatic profile. The regional origin is reflected in a red wine with prominent fruit, smooth on the palate and sustained by freshness that enhances its drinkability.

How is it produced

The grapes are handpicked between August and September. Vinification begins with fermentation in stainless steel tanks, followed by maceration on the skins at a controlled temperature of 25-28 °C for around ten days, a choice that supports a balanced phenolic extraction. After malolactic fermentation, the wine continues ageing for nine months in concrete tanks and completes its evolution with a further six months of bottle aging.

Tasting notes

In the glass, the wine reveals a vivid red color, evidence of winemaking aimed at preserving its chromatic brightness. The nose opens with an intense bouquet of red-fleshed fruit, where pronounced cherry notes stand out, complemented by delicate rose floral tones. On the palate, it confirms the sensations perceived on the nose, maintaining a consistent aromatic profile. The structure is fresh, supported by pleasant tannins that ensure a balanced finish.

Food pairings

At the table, it naturally complements first courses with meat-based sauces, where its freshness balances the succulence of the dishes. It pairs well with chicken cacciatore and grilled dishes, highlighting fruity notes without overwhelming the spices. Thanks to its agile palate and composed tannic structure, it is also perfect with lightly seared tuna, offering a consistently satisfying aromatic balance with every bite.

When to serve it

This red is suited for convivial occasions and complete meals, ideal for those looking for a wine with smooth drinkability and clear fruit character. Its polished tannins make it a smart choice for casual lunches and dinners, perfect to accompany meat-based menus or structured fish courses. The maturation in concrete and bottle delivers a wine already harmonious upon opening, allowing immediate appreciation of its balance between aromas and taste texture.
