Description
Eruzione 1614 Riesling by Planeta is the first Riesling produced on Etna and in Sicily, grown at 815 meters above sea level on soils formed by the historic 1614 eruption. The soils are characterized by limestone marl and volcanic sands, which are extremely rich in minerals—a unique combination of factors that helps create a wine expressing the distinctive character of its territory.
The harvest takes place in mid-September, with the grapes handpicked, immediately refrigerated, and carefully selected. After destemming, the grapes undergo a short period of maceration on the skins, followed by gentle pressing. This delicate process is essential to preserve the flavors and aromas of the Riesling. The clarified must then ferments at controlled temperatures in stainless steel and remains in contact with the fine lees for 10 months, with bi-weekly bâtonnage during the first six months to enrich the wine's structure.
It presents a pale yellow color with greenish hues. On the nose, it displays the typical aromatic precursors of the variety, such as white apple, plum, lemon, and yellow flowers. The taste is perfectly dry, with balanced acidity and a characteristic mineral profile that stands out in this youthful stage, making it fresh and lively on the palate.
Ideal food pairings include dishes that reflect its vibrant acidity and pronounced sapidity. It is particularly well-suited to fish dishes such as baked mackerel or steamed snapper, and pairs well with rice and vegetable-based dishes, including raw vegetables. In ethnic cuisines, it is excellent with sashimi or even with Latin American dishes such as quesadilla. Its freshness and mineral structure allow it to enhance a variety of flavors.
