Tequila is a Mexican alcoholic beverage made by distilling blue agave, produced in the city of Tequila and its surrounding areas in the state of Jalisco. The main types of tequila include Tequila Blanco, which may be aged in stainless steel; Tequila Reposado, which matures for at least three months in white oak barrels from France or the United States, either new or previously used for whisky or wine; and Tequila Añejo, which undergoes a minimum of 12 months of ageing in barrels that previously held Tequila Reposado or other spirits, resulting in a darker colour and a complex bouquet of aromas. Traditionally served with salt and lime, tequila is also a key ingredient in famous cocktails such as the Tequila Sunrise and Margarita.
