The Mazzei family is the undisputed star of the history of Italian winemaking. With its Tenuta Zisola estate located near a former baglio (a typical Sicilian fortified farmhouse) and with around fifty hectares of vineyards, Mazzei captures the essence of Sicily by producing low yields and taking full advantage of the island's Mediterranean climate. Using the region's main grape variety, Nero d’Avola, Zisola has created the Noto Rosso Zisola (91 pt LM), with a pleasantly fragrant and fruity profile, and the Noto Rosso Doppio Zeta (91 pt JS), a blend which mainly uses Nero d'Avola, creating a more intense, complex and rich wine, enhanced by 16 months ageing in French oak barrels. The selection finishes with Terre Siciliane Effe Emme (92 pt JS), an intense and elegant single-grape Petit Verdot: a red with great structure and depth, as well as vigorous tannins and extraordinary longevity.
