Bodega Garzón
Bodega Garzón is a winery in southeastern Uruguay, in the Garzón region, Maldonado Department, about 18 kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean and 45 minutes from Punta del Este. The estate was purchased in 1999 by Alejandro P. Bulgheroni and his wife Bettina and is part of the Alejandro Bulgheroni Family Vineyards group.
The vineyard extends over roughly 200 hectares divided into more than 1,300 parcels, allowing every nuance of the ocean-influenced terroir to shine. The family's goal is to craft estate wines that reflect the purity of the land, with guidance from oenologist and agronomist Alberto Antonini.
The stars are Tannat, Uruguay’s signature grape, and Albariño: with 41 hectares dedicated, Bodega Garzón is the largest producer of Albariño in the Americas. The range is rounded out by varieties like Cabernet Franc and the prestigious Balasto, the winery’s flagship wine, also presented on the Place de Bordeaux.
Officially inaugurated in 2016, the winery is the first in the world to have obtained LEED certification for the entire facility, a testament to a strong commitment to sustainable agriculture, green energy, and the protection of the local landscape and wildlife. Notable accolades include: New World Winery of the Year 2018 by Wine Enthusiast, two wines in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 — Tannat Reserva 2015 and Albariño Reserva 2022 — and consistent top placements in the World's Best Vineyards ranking.
Oceanic terroir, sustainability, and international ambition make Bodega Garzón the most renowned face of Uruguayan wine.
