Château Talbot
Château Talbot is a Quatrième Grand Cru Classé of 1855 from the Saint-Julien appellation in the Médoc. Its name pays homage to Constable John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury, an English commander and governor of Guyenne, defeated in 1453 at the Battle of Castillon.
For nearly two centuries the estate belonged to the Marquises d'Aux, and in 1918 it passed to the Cordier family: Désiré, then his son Georges and his nephew Jean, followed by the latter’s daughters, Lorraine and Nancy. Today Château Talbot is led by Nancy Bignon-Cordier with her husband Jean-Paul Bignon and their children Philippine, Marguerite and Gustave.
The vineyard extends over about 110 hectares in a single block, on the edge of the Gironde estuary, on ridges of alluvial gravel carried over millennia by the Dordogne and the Garonne, from the Massif Central and the Pyrenees.
Power and finesse are the hallmarks of Château Talbot’s wines, a faithful expression of the Saint-Julien terroir and of a long family history.
