Château Meyney
Château Meyney is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc, in Saint-Estèphe, overlooking the Gironde estuary. The Gironde archives already mention in 1276 the Priory of Notre-Dame de Coleys, among the first vineyards of Saint-Estèphe, and the official birth of the estate dates to 1625, when Pierre Forthon bequeathed it to the Feuillant Fathers, who ran it for over 150 years, making it their primary source of income.
In the nineteenth century the Luetkens family added the title of "château" and Louise Luetkens led the property for over forty years. In 1919 the négociant Désiré Cordier arrived, introducing Petit Verdot through massal selection. Since 2004 Meyney has belonged to the Crédit Agricole group and, under the guidance of Anne Le Naour, has been the focus of significant investment.
The vineyard covers 51 hectares in a single block, on a hill of silica-rich gravel that slopes down towards the estuary, well exposed and ventilated, with a deep clay-limestone subsoil and a vein of blue clay. The blend comprises Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (35%) and a notable share of Petit Verdot (15%), from 35- to 40-year-old vines.
With HVE 3 and ISO 14001 certification and a conversion to organic farming begun in 2021, Château Meyney produces the grand vin and Prieur de Meyney, authentic expressions of Saint-Estèphe.
