Alta Langa is one of the renowned Italian denominations, alongside Trento DOC and Franciacorta, dedicated to the production of Classic Method sparkling wines.

It is a rather small area, with a limited production of bottles, but with a long tradition and extremely high quality. The vineyards are cultivated in the hilly areas with a strong viticultural vocation located in the provinces of Cuneo, Asti, and Alessandria at an altitude between 200 and 600 meters above sea level. The cool climate, significant temperature variations, and soils composed of calcareous-clay marls are perfect for producing excellent sparkling wine bases.

The regulations define the ampelographic base for white sparkling wine (including Riserva), sparkling rosé (including Riserva) as a minimum of 90% Pinot Noir and/or Chardonnay. Other non-aromatic grapes authorized in the Piedmont region may contribute up to a maximum of 10%. The bottles must remain on the lees for a minimum period of 30 months and 36 for the Riserva version. Unlike other Classic Method sparkling wines, Alta Langa is produced only in great vintages because it can only be vintage-dated: there is indeed no Alta Langa without the vintage indication.
