Récoltant Manipulant

Champagne Récoltant Manipulant (RM) are Champagnes produced by winegrowers who use predominantly or exclusively grapes from their own vineyards to craft wines with a strong sense of place. Unlike the grandes maisons, these producers oversee the grapes’ journey directly, from tending the vines to vinification, right through to bottling.

The “RM” (Récoltant Manipulant) designation, shown on the label, identifies winegrowers who vinify and market Champagnes made from grapes grown in their own vineyards. This production model highlights the characteristics of the terroir of Champagne, yielding cuvées with strong personality and often in more limited quantities.

Choosing a Champagne Récoltant Manipulant means discovering the work and philosophy of small producers and vignerons who interpret their land through viticultural and winemaking practices they handle directly. Each bottle can thus authentically convey the origin of the grapes, the character of the vineyard, and the producer’s style.

RM Champagnes are particularly appreciated by enthusiasts seeking artisanal wines, expressions of place, and less standardized interpretations of Champagne. The smaller scale of production and the direct control over the various stages make it possible to create identity-driven Champagnes, deeply connected to the vineyard and their terroir of origin.

Buying Récoltant Manipulant Champagnes therefore means getting closer to the world of the vigneron champenois and discovering bottles capable of expressing the specific character of a place, a vintage, and the philosophy of those who produce them.
