Wine in the great films of cinema

From Marcellino bread and wine from the 1950s to the most recent Vinodentro in 2014, wine has conquered an increasingly important role in the history of cinema : from a simple appearance to a central pivot of their complex textures, to becoming today a real star .

The presence of the sumptuous bottle of Château Lafite in The Year of the Comet is significant, the object of desire around which the whole plot revolves and the actions of the protagonists; the presence of Chianti in the bloody Hannibal Lecter is more subtle.

With lead feet, wine becomes more and more space in more classic films: in The Barbarian Invasions the protagonists toast with Brunello di Montalcino (Banfi), the same to be recalled in the comic Tuscan film Bain Marie .

We are in Tuscany therefore, where wine is a symbolic element of regional culture and tradition: from Chianti to the Montalcino area, from the coastal area to the Maremma, the cellars become the main locations for the setting of well-known films .....

Tuscan wines also appear in Sideways , where the setting of Santa Barbara becomes the setting for some Italian varieties such as Sangiovese, the main grape variety at the base of Chianti Classico.

Champagne deserves a special mention, the bubble symbol of luxury and wealth, which has won over the years the esteem of the greatest Hollywood stars becoming protagonist in the greatest American films.

In the distant 1940s, Champagne Mumm and Veuve Clicquot made its first appearances in Casablanca , with the famous actors Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Brergman, and the same champagne became an icon of the film Fandango , with the well-known label signed Dom Perignon. And he, together with Bollinger, become the most loved bottles by America's most admired secret agent: James Bond, he usually orders a specific vintage, as in the case of The Spy Who Loved Me , in which he reads “ A man drinking Dom Perignon from '52 cannot be so bad “, an expression of his great weakness for French bubbles.

And finally, how can we forget, Four Rooms by Quentin Tarantino, the film in which, the director himself, in his monologue praises the cuvée de prestige Cristal , he has excellent hampagne, with the famous quote "I hate champagne, but the I love Cristal . "
