The most widespread red grape variety in the national territory , it is cultivated mainly in central Italy and in particular in Tuscany , of which it is undoubtedly the standard-bearer . Sangiovese is in fact the only grape allowed for the production of Brunello di Montalcino , but it can also be used in purity in wines of other denominations such as Chianti , Chianti Classico , Nobile di Montepulciano, Morellino di Scansano, as well as in the so-called " Supertuscans ", which have contributed so much to the fame of this vine in the world. It is also found in the Romagna region, contributing to the production of wines with a unique and distinctive personality.

Of good ductility, it adapts to different soil and climate conditions, providing distinctly territorial wines , but offers its best if grown on poor soils, rich in skeleton and with a good percentage of limestone. The wine from this vine has a brilliant ruby red color, which is expressed on the nose with characteristic aromas of cherry, morello cherry and ripe red fruit. On the palate it is full-bodied, with dense and elegant tannins, good freshness and aromatic persistence .
