Luca Maroni is een van de bekendste en invloedrijkste Italiaanse critici. Hij begon zijn carrière in de wijn door samen te werken met Luigi Veronelli aan "Ex Vinis", een tijdschrift waarvan hij de directeur werd en verantwoordelijk was voor de eerste vier nummers. In 1990 richtte hij Lm edizioni op, waarmee hij het tijdschrift The Taster of Wine creëerde. In 1993 creëerde hij de eerste editie van het Jaarboek van de beste Italiaanse wijnen, een rapport over de wijnproductie van Italiaanse wijnhuizen.
