Description
Valtuille La Vitoriana is a red wine produced from a single plot located in the area of the same name in Valtuille de Abajo, at the heart of the Bierzo appellation. The vineyard, one of the oldest in the region, lies at the foot of the Castro de la Ventosa archaeological site and is made up of vines over 120 years old. The soil composition, mainly clay with the presence of stones and quartz, contributes to the balanced ripening of the grapes and to an authentic territorial expression of the wine. The blend is dominated by Mencía, with small amounts of Alicante Bouschet, Bastardo, and native white varieties.
The harvest is carried out by hand in the early days of picking. After destemming, 100% of the whole berries are transferred to an oak vat, where fermentation occurs spontaneously, without the addition of yeast and without temperature control. Maceration lasts for about 35 days, during which only one daily pump-over is performed by gravity. Once fermentation is complete, the wine is racked off and left to rest for one or two months before aging for a year in used barrels.
On tasting, Valtuille La Vitoriana stands out for its refinement and complexity. The aromatic profile expresses elegance and freshness, with floral notes, crunchy red fruits, hints of spice, and a subtle minerality that faithfully reflects the terroir. On the palate, it is fine, silky, and well-balanced, with polished tannins and a harmonious persistence.
Perfect with roasted or grilled red meat dishes.
