Description
What kind of wine is it
Cinque Autoctoni by Fantini is a red wine obtained from a blend of Montepulciano, Primitivo, Sangiovese, Negroamaro, and Malvasia Nera cultivated between Abruzzo and Puglia. It stands out for its structure and complexity, with an elegant and harmonious profile. Fermentation in stainless steel and aging in barriques for 13 months give the wine depth and vibrant freshness, while the tannins are smooth and well-integrated. Prolonged maceration and malolactic fermentation in wood contribute to a balance between body and finesse.
Where does it come from
The grapes come from vineyards located in Notaresco and Ortona in Abruzzo and Sava and Manduria in Puglia. In Abruzzo, the Mediterranean climate and temperature swings promote aroma development and preserve acidity. The limestone and clay soils of Abruzzo contrast with the sandy and clay soils of Puglia, exposed to sea breezes. These conditions give the wine freshness, minerality, and a solid tannin structure.
How is it produced
The grapes are harvested and selected by hand to ensure quality. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature for about 25 days, with prolonged maceration to extract color and tannins. After malolactic fermentation in French barriques, the wine ages for 13 months in the same vessels. Blending and bottling complete a process that combines traditional techniques and technological control, offering consistency and stylistic precision.
Tasting notes
In the glass it appears with an intense ruby red color and violet highlights. The nose reveals aromas of blackberry and ripe cherry, complemented by notes of herbs, cinnamon, clove, and licorice on a mineral background. On the palate, it shows a full and robust structure, with a balance between freshness and softness. The tannins are soft and well integrated, leading to a long and persistent finish.
Food pairings
This wine pairs well with hearty sauces and red meats, and is ideal with braised dishes, beef or game stews. Its structure and aromatic richness also make it suitable for aged cheeses such as pecorino, and for typical dishes from Abruzzo like arrosticini. At the table, it matches well with southern Italian cuisine, such as orecchiette with turnip tops, and is perfect for contemplative tastings thanks to its complexity.
When to serve
Cinque Autoctoni shows its full potential between the second and fifth year, a period when freshness and evolved aromas are in balance. Thanks to the aging in barriques and solid structure, it can evolve positively up to 7–8 years, maintaining fruit integrity and tannic definition. It is recommended to serve in large glasses to highlight the aromatic complexity and persistence on the palate.
