Description
What kind of wine it is
The Amarone della Valpolicella Classico from Bertani is a structured red wine, made from grapes subjected to grape drying. Its character is born from vineyards devoted exclusively to this practice, which gives the wine concentration and depth. The result is a red of great intensity, capable of offering a wide organoleptic range while maintaining balance among its components. It is a wine conceived for those who seek structure and complexity in a single glass.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the vineyards of Tenuta Villa Novare, in the heart of Valpolicella Classica. These are plots reserved solely for the cultivation of grapes destined for drying, a choice that shapes the wine’s style right from the vineyard. This location, in the most typical area of the denomination, ensures a direct link with its place of origin. Sourcing from a single estate allows constant control over every stage of cultivation.
How it is made
The wine is made from Rondinella and Corvina Veronese grapes, harvested exclusively by hand in the second week of September and subjected to a careful bunch selection. The grapes are then laid in a single layer on racks in the drying lofts, where they gain texture and aromatic richness. After maceration, the must ferments at a controlled temperature of eighteen degrees for about fifty days. This is followed by a long aging in Slavonian oak casks for about six years, plus a further twelve months in bottle.
Tasting notes
It shows a deep red color, embellished with garnet nuances. On the nose it opens with aromas of plum, cherry and sour cherry, enriched by hints of dried fruit, green tea and licorice. On the palate it is fresh and smooth, marked by unmistakable notes of red berries and softened by vanilla aromas. The sip achieves a clear balance between acidity and the tannic component.
Food pairing
This Amarone is perfect with red meats and game, where its tannic structure stands up to flavorful, full-bodied preparations. It also proves ideal alongside aged cheeses, which can engage with the notes of dried fruit and licorice. Its aromatic concentration makes it suitable for dishes with bold, persistent flavors. It is a wine that finds its most natural pairing in regional cuisine.
When to serve it
Thanks to its long aging, it is already ready to enjoy but with further potential to evolve in the bottle. It benefits from a few minutes in the glass before tasting, so the aromas can fully unfurl. It is the ideal choice for convivial occasions and for important meals during the cold season.
