Description

Château d'Issan is one of the oldest wineries in the Medoc and in the entire wine-growing area of Bordeaux. After the Second World War it was bought by the Cruse family, who still manage it today. Before starting to produce excellent wines like today, the Cruse family first had to restore the vineyards and the cellar, which were in a state of decay. The results began to be seen in the late 1990s, when the château began producing some of the premium wines of the Margaux appellation. In the château's 52 hectares of vines, the best vineyards are located right around the main building.

The must is vinified parcel by parcel in steel vats kept at a controlled temperature. The malolactic fermentation takes place both in steel vats and in wooden barrels. Subsequently the wine is aged in French oak barrels (with 50% new wood) for about 18 months.

In the glass the wine is purplish red. The nose opens with aromas of plum compote and ripe black currant, to which are added notes of fresh tobacco and the balsamic note of bay leaf. The sip is structured, full-bodied and fresh, with a lively final herbaceous note.

Blason d'Issan goes perfectly with stewed game and roasted red meats and noble poultry. It is advisable to let the wine settle for at least 3 hours before serving it.
