Description
What kind of wine is it
Dea Vulcano by Donnafugata is an Etna Rosso made from Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grapes. It presents itself as a wine with a fresh and elegant profile, skillfully balancing fragrance and structure. The vinification process involves fermentation in steel, followed by maturation in cement tanks and partly in French oak, ending with bottle aging. The result is a well-balanced red, smooth and defined on the palate.
Where it comes from
Dea Vulcano originates in the Etna area and is classified as Etna Rosso. Its origin is linked to vineyards rooted on the volcano, ideal for the cultivation of the Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio blend. This specific production area gives the wine a style focused on finesse and freshness, maintaining a moderate body and noticeable tannins. The territorial identity drives its appearance and overall taste profile.
How it is produced
After grape selection in the vineyard, fermentation in steel includes eight to ten days of maceration on the skins at 25°C. Once this stage is complete, the wine is matured for fourteen months in a cement tank and partly in French oak to develop its texture. There follows at least ten months of bottle aging before release, a process that allows a progressive harmonization of its components.
Tasting notes
A light ruby red in the glass. The nose reveals a complex bouquet of red fruit, with marked notes of wild strawberries, followed by delicate floral hints of violet and rose. Later, aromas of black pepper and sweet tobacco emerge. On the palate, the fragrance is integrated with freshness and body, supported by pleasant tannins. The balanced finish is juicy, closing the tasting experience in a clean and lasting way.
Food pairings
Pairs perfectly with starters based on cold cuts and semi-aged cheeses, where its freshness complements the savoriness of the dish. Ideal with Mediterranean recipes that include vegetables or mushrooms, it also enhances preparations based on meat and legumes. At the table, it goes well with traditional Italian dishes like lasagna with ragù. Its spicy aromatic profile makes it versatile with flavorful dishes that are not overly rich.
Serving suggestions
This red suits convivial moments, for lunches and dinners that call for a precise yet easygoing pairing. It fits well throughout the meal, especially with menus based on cold cuts, vegetables, meat, or legumes. Allowing it to breathe briefly in the glass helps the notes of red fruit, flowers, and spice to fully emerge, while keeping the wine lively. Thanks to its long maturation, it offers maximum taste expression.
