Description

The origins of Château Figeac are very ancient and date back to the 2nd century, to the period of the Gauls and the Romans. Its name comes from its first, ancient owner, Figeacus, who built his villa in this place. Over the centuries, different properties have succeeded each other, but it was in the 1970s that, thanks to the ownership and engagement of Thierry Manoncourt, Château Figeac began a series of changes that made it one of the best wineries in Bordeaux .

Château Figeac was a pioneer in temperature-controlled winemaking. The vineyard plots are vinified, as is now customary in Bordeaux, separately, in temperature-controlled vats, both steel and oak. The malolactic fermentation, which takes place in wooden barrels, is followed by aging for 14-18 months in 100% new French oak barriques.

In the glass the wine is deep ruby red. On the nose, aromas of wild berries predominate, with smoky and spicy notes. The sip is enveloping, intense and with fine tannins and great gustatory balance, with a long finish.

Chateau Figeac Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 1er Classé B is the ideal pairing with grilled, roasted and stewed meats, both red and noble poultry such as duck and pheasant. It is advisable to let the wine settle for at least 3 hours before serving it.
