Description
What kind of wine is it
Vigna di Gabri by Donnafugata is a Sicilian white wine born from a meticulous blend of several varieties. In addition to Catarratto Lucido, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier, Chardonnay also contributes to the wine’s complexity. Fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel preserves the grapes’ aromatic precision, while time spent in wood imparts a fresh and enveloping style, characterized by a balanced structure and clear flavor persistence.
Where does it come from
This white hails from the renowned Tenuta di Contessa Entellina, a pivotal place for Donnafugata’s production. The grapes specifically come from the estate’s namesake vineyard, strongly wanted by Gabriella Rallo, founder of the winery along with her husband Giacomo. The Sicilia regional designation provides a broad and well-recognized territorial framework, while direct reference to this specific dedicated vineyard pinpoints its exact origin.
How it is produced
The production process involves a gentle fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks, which is key to maintaining varietal freshness and optimal temperature control. After vinification, the wine matures for six months in French oak barriques to acquire structure and roundness. Finally, it undergoes at least three months of bottle aging, aimed at harmoniously integrating all aromatic components prior to market release.
Tasting notes
On visual inspection, the wine exhibits a vibrant straw yellow hue. Its aromatic profile is clear and varied, revealing a bouquet that opens with inviting citrus aromas and tropical fruit, well supported by floral notes and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it delivers a lively attack and offers a fresh and enveloping sip that develops consistently through to a long and elegant finish.
What to pair it with
This white boasts remarkable versatility at the table and finds its perfect match with seafood cuisine. Its soft structure and good aromatic profile make it perfect for enhancing grilled fish dishes, where the citrus and fruit notes blend harmoniously. Thanks to its enveloping character, it is also a successful pairing with classic frittatas, supporting the meal with balance, freshness, and palate-cleansing qualities.
When to serve it
This label is ideal when you want a balanced wine that can accompany a full meal or enrich an informal gathering. The careful maturation period lends it a pleasing roundness, perfect for times when you seek intense aromas combined with great drinkability. It’s an excellent choice for convivial occasions with family or friends, delivering a tasting experience that highlights the elegance and persistence of Sicilian winegrowing.
