Description
Planeta's Eruzione 1614 Nerello Mascalese is an exceptional Sicilian wine, grown on the lava flows from the historic 1614 eruption. The soil, rich in minerals and with excellent exposure, contributes to the uniqueness of this Nerello Mascalese, which grows at altitude on black soils, resulting in an intensely aromatic and elegant structure. Farming practices include encouraging wild flora and minimal use of sulfur and copper, enriching the biodiversity of the soil.
The harvest takes place at the end of October, with grapes picked and immediately refrigerated, then carefully hand-selected. Fermentation is carried out in cement and steel tanks, with the skins remaining in contact with the must for a period ranging from 16 to 40 days. Destemming follows gentle processes to preserve the quality of the grapes. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in steel, followed by 12 months of aging in oak barrels.
The wine presents a bright red color and expresses, through its compact and elegant tannins, the sweetness of wild berries and currants with a delicate salty note that invites another sip. On the nose, incense, medicinal herbs, beeswax, hibiscus, and wild fennel can be distinguished, reflecting its volcanic origin and the environment from which it comes.
This wine is well suited to bold and distinctive pairings, ideal with game, truffle dishes, rock fish in complex sauces, cheeses, and cured meats. Its structure and distinctive character make it a versatile companion for rich and intense foods, enhancing both the dish and the wine itself.
