Description
What kind of wine it is
Lu Meli by Li Ciuri is a rosé wine from the Sicilia denomination, made exclusively from Nero d’Avola grapes. It reveals a fresh and vibrant style, supported by solid structure and a clear, fruity profile. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks with a brief skin contact to extract color, followed by skinless fermentation. The result is a characterful rosé, well-defined and straightforward, designed for immediate enjoyment, yet featuring a notable persistence that pairs well at the table.
Where does it come from
This wine is born on the island and classified under the Sicilia denomination as a rosé, with a declared connection to its territory also echoed in the brand name Li Ciuri, which means "the flowers" in Sicilian dialect. The reference to the majolica of Caltagirone highlights a cultural inspiration that invokes a recognizable local tradition. The Sicilian origin, expressed through Nero d’Avola, steers the style towards a rosé with aromatic intensity, defined fruit, and freshness that enlivens each sip. The territorial context provides a coherent and identifiable profile, focused on typicity and expressive clarity.
How it is produced
Nero d’Avola grapes are harvested and selected between late August and early September. After picking, the bunches are destemmed and sent to temperature-controlled steel tanks, where the must undergoes a short and gentle skin contact. In this step, the wine gains its typical rosé color; once the desired shade is achieved, the skins are separated from the must. Fermentation then continues without the skins, using a technical approach focused on precision, aromatic purity, and controlled extraction.
Tasting notes
On visual inspection, it displays a lively and bright pink color, clear in keeping with the light maceration typical of the type. The nose offers an intense bouquet with floral overtones and a precise fruity character evoking peach, crunchy cherry, and pomegranate, complemented by pleasant mineral notes. The palate is distinctly fresh and full, with noticeable body and structure for a rosé. The finish is persistent, with a light and orderly return of fruit that closes the tasting with consistency.
Pairings
It pairs easily with cured meat starters and hearty cold salads, where its freshness balances the fat and juiciness of the ingredients. It's also suitable for grilled white meats, thanks to its fruity profile and solid structure, and with fresh and semi-aged cheeses, which find harmony in its persistent finish. For a regional flair, it can accompany a Sicilian caponata, bringing out the sweet and sour contrasts of the dish. At the table, it also complements flavorful fish dishes when a rosé with good aromatic intensity is desired.
When to serve it
This rosé is ideal for social gatherings and lunches or dinners when you want a fresh yet substantial wine, capable of standing up to diverse pairings. It shines when served well-chilled, highlighting the fruit's clarity and mineral character. It's particularly suited to the warm season and outdoor occasions, like aperitifs and barbecues, where its drinkability and persistence are complementary. The technical approach in steel and brief maceration aim for expressive immediacy and balance, making it an easy choice for the table.
