Description
What kind of wine is it
Gewürztraminer Adlerzeichen by Adler von Klausen is a white wine made from Gewürztraminer grapes, an authentic expression of Alto Adige. It stands out for its aromatic, robust, and spicy style, combining precision with excellent intensity. The winemaking involves a gentle pressing and a brief skin contact to enhance the extraction of aromas. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks and aging on the lees provide structural harmony. It represents an ideal synthesis between its roots in Valle Isarco and impeccable technical construction.
Where it comes from
This white comes to life in Chiusa, in the province of Bolzano, at the heart of Valle Isarco, a mountainous area in Alto Adige linked to viticulture. The vineyards sit on alluvial and gravelly soils, rich in mineral skeleton, which influence vine development. This geology imparts the wine with a marked minerality and a defined elegance. The territorial designation of Alto Adige and Valle Isarco guarantees a clear origin, where the character of the variety is expressed with saline texture and rigorous clarity.
How it is produced
After harvesting, the grapes undergo a gentle pressing with initial skin contact, useful for extracting aromas without overwhelming the substance. Controlled temperature fermentation in stainless steel preserves the fruit’s fragrances. Subsequent aging on the lees for about seven months adds volume and texture, thus maintaining a clean profile. The absence of wood enhances the variety’s characteristics and the imprint of the terroir, delivering a balance between intensity and smoothness.
Tasting notes
In the glass, the wine shows a color evolution from greenish highlights to pale yellow, a sign of meticulous work in steel. The bouquet is intense and enticing, with an aromatic nose where clear hints of vanilla and cloves, signatures of the grape, stand out. On the palate it is robust, spicy, and coherent, offering a continuous progression. Time on the lees gives it tactile consistency, while the mineral streak derived from gravelly soils gives the finish remarkable clarity.
Food pairings
The robust structure and aromatic profile enhance fish-based courses, supporting the flavors without overpowering them. It pairs naturally with shellfish such as prawns, lobster and crayfish, whose sweetness is highlighted by the wine’s spiciness. It proves suitable for crab meat too, as it creates a harmonious contrast. A refined pairing can be achieved with foie gras pâté, a combination that perfectly matches in terms of intensity and persistence during structured meals.
When to serve it
This Gewürztraminer shines when its aromatic expression reaches its peak, making it ideal for lunches and dinners based on seafood. It is the right choice to serve a characterful white, capable of combining elegance and assertiveness. Vinification in steel and aging on the lees ensure an excellent balance between substance and freshness, a quality that makes it suitable for formal occasions. Accompanying a main course with this wine guarantees a clean sip that elevates the entire gastronomic experience.
