Description

Masseto is excellence in wine form. A legendary wine from a terroir with unique, extraordinary characteristics. Universally considered one of the most prestigious wines in the world.

Produced from a masterful interpretation of pure Merlot grapes, sourced from three subzones of the eponymous Masseto vineyard, namely Masseto Centrale, Masseto Junior, and Masseto Alto, favored by the presence of a mild-temperate climate and breezes blowing near the expansive sea.

Vintage 2004

The 2004 was a textbook year for the Masseto vineyard. The winter brought a good amount of rain with temperatures never excessively cold, while the spring remained sunny with occasional thunderstorms. Budding occurred between March 30 and April 10, leading to abundant flowering, also a result of the high temperatures of the previous year. The summer continued with ideal conditions, culminating in a warm and sunny August that favored a uniform ripening of the Merlot. The absence of rain during the harvest allowed for each parcel to be picked at the optimal moment, from September 13 to 21.

Masseto 2004 is a pure Merlot born of a perfectly balanced growing season. The grapes, handpicked and carefully selected on a dual sorting table, were vinified separately in stainless steel and truncated oak vats. Fermentation occurred at 25-28°C, followed by a maceration of 15-18 days. The wine then underwent malolactic fermentation in new French oak barriques and was aged for 24 months in barriques, with blending after 12 months. After bottling, it rested in the bottle for another 12 months before release.

Masseto 2004 is a wine of extraordinary elegance, where power and richness are concealed behind a silky and enveloping texture. The aromatic profile is rich and complex, with a surprising harmony between intensity and finesse. Its sophistication makes it enjoyable from the outset, but those who wait will be rewarded by an extraordinary evolution over time as the wine is still in the early stages of its potential.
