Description
Nerello Mascalese Vigne Vecchie from Calabretta comes from vines over 80 years old, mostly ungrafted, cultivated on the northern slopes of Etna, in Calderara di Randazzo, in the province of Catania.
It is made from Nerello Mascalese grapes with a touch of Nerello Cappuccio, all hand-harvested. Fermentation is spontaneous, with 5 days of maceration on the skins in stainless steel containers. The wine matures in Slavonian oak barrels for about 60 months and for another 12 months in bottle before release on the market.
It displays a deep ruby red color. On the nose, it is enveloping and elegant, offering a bouquet marked by aromas of aromatic herbs and chamomile flowers, enriched by delicate mineral notes and red berry fruit. On the palate, it is generous and powerful, with ripe tannins leading to a notably persistent finish.
Excellent alongside roasted meats, it is a perfect match for game and wildfowl dishes.
