Description
What kind of wine it is
Ampelio di La Torre is a Tuscan red wine made from a blend of Alicante, Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo. Classified as Toscana, it stands out for its fragrant and immediately accessible style, which vividly expresses the characteristics of its terroir. The winemaking process involves a prolonged maceration and fermentation with indigenous yeasts, followed by careful aging in wood. The result is an elegant and persistent profile that smoothly invites both tasting and gastronomic pairings.
Origin
The grapes come from vineyards located on the hillside overlooking the hamlet of Sant’Angelo in Colle, in the southern sector of Montalcino. The excellent southern exposure ensures full ripeness of the clusters, guaranteeing a well-defined and enveloping palate. The vines are cultivated on natural terraces, effectively shielded from the scirocco and tramontana winds by Poggio dell’Arna and Poggio Civitella. These geographical elements create an ideal microclimate for optimal plant development and health.
How it is produced
The strictly manual harvest takes place in mid-September, preceded by targeted actions such as green pruning and mechanical soil management. In the cellar, only the ripest and healthiest grapes are selected, which then undergo maceration for about twenty days. Fermentation starts spontaneously thanks to the action of the indigenous yeasts present on the skins. The wine is then matured for twelve months in small oak barrels, followed by further aging in the bottle, which refines its structure and aromatic precision.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it displays a ruby red color with a pronounced and inviting brightness. On the nose, it reveals an intense and complex bouquet, with clear notes of spring flowers alongside spicy hints typical of the Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, the sip is fragrant and pleasantly spiced, led by bright berry notes that accompany a measured and harmonious progression. The tasting concludes with a long and persistent finish, true to the aging choices and careful work in the cellar.
Pairings
This red pairs excellently with structured first courses and meat-based main courses, as it enhances savory sauces and robust preparations. A plate of tagliatelle with ragù is a perfectly balanced traditional match for its spicy and fragrant profile. Alternatively, it shines alongside grilled red meat, where the fruity notes and balanced structure naturally complement the succulence and slight smokiness of the food, without ever overwhelming the palate.
When to serve it
It is the ideal choice when seeking a red wine with defined character, perfect for elevating moments of togetherness during lunches and dinners. It is particularly well-suited for convivial occasions where the menu features rich recipes and grilled dishes, as its persistent finish matches the pace effortlessly. Thanks to its balanced maturation in wood, it is ready to be enjoyed from its release. It is ideal on the table to offer a tasting experience marked by aromatic clarity and stylistic consistency.
