Description
What kind of wine it is
Solengo di Argiano is a Tuscan red wine with a full and defined profile. It is born from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Sangiovese. This combination unites a robust structure with remarkable freshness, offering velvety tannins and a broad aromatic bouquet reminiscent of black fruits and toasted notes. It is a wine with a modern character, suitable for flavourful dishes in refined dining settings.
Where it comes from
This red is sourced from vineyards cultivated according to the strict principles of organic farming. The vines, aged between fifteen and twenty-two years, sink their roots into alluvial soils rich in sand and calcareous marl. The plots are located at an altitude ranging from 280 to 310 meters above sea level. This combination helps maintain a measured balance between the ripeness of the grapes and the wine's lively tension.
How it is produced
The grapes are harvested at full ripeness in October. The different varieties undergo a separate fermentation, followed by maceration on the skins for about twenty days to extract colour and structural components. Subsequently, the wine matures for about eighteen months in specially selected French oak barriques. This slow ageing in wood defines the aromatic profile and refines the mouthfeel.
Tasting notes
To the eye, it presents a deep ruby red hue. The nose is rich and ample, dominated by clear notes of black fruit giving way to elegant sensations of chocolate and coffee, integrated by a marked boisé component. On the palate, it is powerful yet supported by vibrant freshness, keeping it balanced and smooth. The tasting ends with a persistent finish and soft tannins.
Food pairings
At the table, it shows excellent aptitude with meat ragù pasta dishes, enhancing their aromatic intensity without losing balance. It is particularly well-suited paired with game or with red meat preparations, both grilled and roasted. In these combinations, its lively freshness and measured tannins help effectively cleanse the palate, creating a structured tasting experience.
When to serve
It is an ideal red wine to serve when the menu calls for boldly flavoured dishes and for dinners centered around meat. Thanks to extended maturation, it benefits from proper aeration before serving, allowing the fruit and toasted notes to clearly express themselves. It fits well at convivial autumn or winter gatherings. It retains a solid vitality, allowing it to evolve positively even after a period of cellaring.
