Château Lafon-Rochet
Château Lafon-Rochet is one of the oldest estates in Saint-Estèphe, in the Médoc, Quatrième Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification. Its origins date back to 1557, under the name Domaine de Rochet; around 1680, after the marriage between Antoinette de Guillemotes and Étienne de Lafon, it took on its current name.
In 1960 Guy Tesseron purchased the château, rebuilding the chartreuse and restructuring the vineyard; in 2000 Michel Tesseron had it repainted in a golden yellow that has become the hallmark of the labels. Since 2021 the property has belonged to the Lorenzetti family, part of the Vignobles Cruse-Lorenzetti group, and 2022 was the first vintage entirely signed by the new ownership.
The terroir, between the Atlantic and the Gironde estuary, combines gravel with exceptional drainage and blue clay. The vineyard is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (30%), Cabernet Franc (4%) and Petit Verdot (1%), with an average vine age of 38 years and historic plots over 80 years old. Since 2020 the estate has been converting to organic farming, certified in 2024, with an agroecology project that has seen more than 5,000 trees and shrubs planted.
Alongside the grand vin, Les Pèlerins de Lafon-Rochet and Château Lilian Ladouys are produced. Château Lafon-Rochet is a radiant and authentic expression of Saint-Estèphe.
