Montalbera
Montalbera is a Piedmontese winery owned by the Morando family, which for three generations has tied its name to the wines of Monferrato and the Langhe. The estate owns over 100 hectares of vineyards between Monferrato and Langa and two historic wineries: in Castagnole Monferrato, in the heart of the Asti Monferrato area, and in Castiglione Tinella, in the Langhe.
The symbol of Montalbera is Ruchè, an aromatic and rare grape variety from Monferrato: according to the company, 60% of the Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato appellation comes from its vineyards, making it the largest private producer of this wine. Among the stated accolades are Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso and 99 points from Luca Maroni.
Alongside Ruchè, the winery produces a significant share of Grignolino d’Asti, about 15% of the appellation according to the company, and a Barbera d’Asti among the most awarded in Monferrato.
In the cellar, indigenous yeasts are used, with fermentation in stainless steel and aging in French oak barriques and tonneaux as well as in large casks, with a reduced use of sulfites. The company is BRC- and IFS-certified and welcomes visitors to its wine shop and with guided tours by appointment.
Family tradition and great native grape varieties make Montalbera a benchmark for Ruchè and for the wines of Monferrato.
