Etna
Wines born from the lava soil of the volcano
The Etna DOC represents the first Designation of Origin to have been recognized in Sicily .
Many have christened the wine-growing area of Etna an island within an island or island of fire due to the peculiarity of a unique terroir and its particular climatic conditions. This area is so different from the rest of the region's territories: from the soil of volcanic origin which alternates between pebbly, sandy and ashen; to large temperature variations ; to end with the ancient origins of the vineyards , among the oldest cultivated in our peninsula, even more than centuries old and ungrafted . These are characteristics that make Etna an increasingly sought-after area among winemakers. Over the years, in fact, there has been a continuous birth of vineyards and a notable improvement in the quality of the wines resulting from the increased attention to the territory by producers not only local but from all over Italy and beyond, leading to numerous national awards for the DOC Etna and international .
The wines produced on the volcano come from native vines , all with unique and inimitable characteristics, typical and particularly fascinating aromas and flavours. Among these we certainly remember Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio with red berries; Caricante and white Catarratto .
