Puerto Plata , 1888 : it is in this small village in the Dominican Republic that Don Andrés Brugal Montaner founds the distillery which will become the number one in the Caribbean . Today, after 130 years, it is the fifth generation of the family to carry on the legend of Brugal, a production reality that bases its myth on an ancient recipe, still secret today . An aura of mystery therefore hovers over Brugal rums, distilled twice from the best sugar cane in the area, and aged for at least two years in barrels personally selected by the Maestros Roneros of the distillery.

The most popular of the rums produced, the Añejo, rests for 2 to 5 years in American white oak barrels as well as the Blanco (90 pt. Wine Enthusiast); Extra Viejo rests for up to eight years in ex-bourbon American white oak barrels, while the precious Gran Reserva "1888" (93 pt.) Is characterized by double aging : up to eight years in ex-bourbon American white oak barrels and further 4-6 years in Spanish red oak barrels ex oloroso sherry. At the top of the range are the "Siglo de Oro", aged 16 years and "Papa Andrés", a limited edition produced only in 1000 pieces.
