Cabreo
Supertuscan protagonists of the revolution
The Tenute del Cabreo of the brothers Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari are divided into two centers, one based in Cabreo di Zeno, which dominates the town of Greve in Chianti , where Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon are grown, components of the Cabreo il Borgo , and the other in the hamlet of Panzano , where instead Chardonnay are cultivated in different clones that give life to Cabreo La Pietra and Pinot Noir from which instead Cabreo Black is born.
The wines of the Tenute del Cabreo were the protagonists in the historic Supertuscan revolution , wines born with the intention of launching a challenge to the great international wines , conceived to escape the tight links of the strict production disciplines such as that of the Chianti Classico, but with the decision to impose equally stringent rules by pursuing quality objectives.
Cabreo is a link with the territory , it is the desire to put the area of origin in the foreground , as shown by the same name taken from ancient cadastral maps. A link that becomes even more marked when we talk about Cabreo Il Borgo (92 pt. James Suckling), referring to the oldest village in the Chianti area, Montefioralle. The range is completed by the Cabreo La Pietra (90 pt. Wine Spectator), one of the first Tuscan whites to refine in wood of French origin, like great red wines, and the Cabreo Black, a wine born from a dream of Ambrogio Folonari after his many trips to Burgundy .
