Barolo is one of the most prestigious Italian denominations . It can be followed, on the label, by additional geographical mentions , attributable to highly suitable areas known in common language as Cru. Being a not very rigid division, within the same crus, there are some areas more suitable than others, according to some of the top experts of Barolo, ascribable to 1st class crus, among which we find: the Barolo Cannubi , long hill located in the center of the denomination, surrounded by higher hills that protect it from disturbances and excessive ventilation, allowing the establishment of a unique microclimate ; Cerequio , characterized by a fairly loose and deep soil, of greater water availability which favors the production of more structured, tannic and powerful wines . Lazzarito , a well exposed serralunghese hill, whose name derives from the old village lazaretto , as it was thought that if the place had been favorable to the cultivation of the vine, then even the climate would have been mild for man, characterized by a calcareous soil - sandstone which gives rise to soft and elegant wines and Villero , with a soil rich in clay and limestone, cradle of powerful and round wines .
