Jack Daniel's is not only one of the most famous and iconic Tennessee Whiskeys, it is above all the story of a personal rescue, that of Jasper Newton Daniel, aka Jack, who was raised by Reverend Dan Call and his African-American servant Nathan "Nearest. "Green, from whom he learned the art of distillation. Having grown up, Jack founded the Tennessee-registered distillery under license number 7, from which the “Old No. 7” whiskey was born .

Jack's success was influenced by three factors, which still make Jack Daniel's unique today: the balanced composition of the "mash" , the mixture of corn, barley and rye, the water of Cave Spring Hollow, a pure spring without sediments thanks to the filtering action of the limestone, and the filtering of the distillate through activated carbon drop by drop. This particular filtering, called "Lincoln County Process" has been adopted as a distinctive feature of Tennessee Whiskey, compared to Bourbon.
