La isla de Islay, la más meridional de las Hébridas, es una de las zonas de producción de Scotch whisky más reconocidas. Su fama proviene de la abundante presencia de turba a través de la cual brotan los manantiales de agua de la isla y con la que se ahuma la malta destinada a la producción de whisky, lo que le da el característico sabor ahumado, de yodo y algas que tanto aprecian los entendidos.

De las nueve destilerías activas, las de la costa sureste, Laphroaig, Lagavulin y Ardberg, producen whiskies más turbados y estructurados, mientras que Caol Ila, al norte de la isla, se caracteriza por un estilo más ligero y elegante. Bowmore, en cambio, se distingue por el equilibrio entre notas dulces y ahumadas gracias al uso de barricas de ex-Bourbon para el envejecimiento de sus whiskies. Una selección para quienes aman el whisky y para quienes aún no lo conocen pero están fascinados. Aquí, sin duda, encontrarás lo mejor.
