Description
What kind of wine is it
The Barolo Ornato is a dry red wine, made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes. Intense and fragrant, it combines structure, balance and suppleness with a vigorous, noble tannin. It has a bold character that does not forgo elegance.
Where it comes from
It is produced by the Palladino winery, founded in 1974 in Serralunga d'Alba, in the heart of the Langhe. The vineyard covers about one hectare, between 300 and 395 metres above sea level, with southern exposure, on calcareous-clay soils.
How it is made
The Nebbiolo grapes, including the Lampia and Michet biotypes, are trained to simple Guyot and harvested by hand. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine then ages for 24 months in large oak casks.
Tasting notes
In the glass it shows a ruby red with garnet nuances. The nose is intense and fragrant, with balsamic and spicy notes supported by wild berries, cherry, rose, blood orange, pepper, liquorice and cinchona. On the palate it reveals structure and balance, with a vigorous tannin and a long finish.
Food pairings
Pairs well with grilled red meats, roasts and braises. A classic match for game, even stewed, and for strong, aged cheeses, including blue cheeses.
When to serve it
This is a red for a special-occasion meal, suited to dinners centred on meat, game and aged cheeses. Serve in a large-bowled glass, opening the bottle well in advance to let the aromas unfurl. Its structure and vigorous tannin also make it suitable for a few years of cellaring.
