Description

What kind of wine is it

Argentiera is the iconic red wine of Tenuta Argentiera, a Bolgheri Superiore that draws strength and uniqueness from the character of the land that gives rise to it. It is a Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. It has a style of solid structure and depth, with an elegant expression and great ageing potential.

Where it comes from

The vineyards of Tenuta Argentiera are located in Bolgheri, in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci, in the province of Livorno, between 180 and 205 meters above sea level. The soil is composed of marls and argillites, with interbeds of sandstones and siliceous rocks. Aspects range from north to southwest, offering the grapes different ripening conditions. The highest plots host Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

How it is made

The grapes are harvested by hand. Alcoholic fermentation and maceration last twenty-five days at controlled temperature, in stainless steel and concrete vats, where malolactic fermentation also takes place. The wine then ages for fourteen to sixteen months in barriques, tonneaux and large oak casks. This is followed by bottle ageing of twelve months.

Tasting notes

The aromatic profile is refined, with a solid structure and depth. The fruit remains pure and the palate reveals an elegant expression, with good ageing potential.

What it pairs with

It is a red suited to substantial dishes, such as red meats grilled or braised, game and roasts. It also pairs well with aged cheeses. Its structure stands up to bold flavors and rich preparations.

When to serve it

It is a wine for special occasions, when you want a characterful red to share at the table. Best enjoyed in a large-bowled glass, opening the bottle a little in advance to let the aromas express themselves. Its ageing potential also makes it suitable for cellaring.
