Description
What kind of wine is it
The Brunello di Montalcino from Conti Costanti is a red wine made from 100% Sangiovese, a classic expression of the appellation. It shows a deep ruby red colour and reveals an elegant aromatic profile that combines fruity freshness with spicy complexity. The estate’s style favours balance and precision, yielding a harmonious, characterful sip. It is a wine conceived to grace the table on more refined occasions.
Where it comes from
Conti Costanti is a historic estate on the south-eastern slope of the Montalcino hill in Tuscany. The vineyards lie in a particularly breezy area, between 300 and 450 metres above sea level, on stony soils rich in galestro. This exposure and the soil composition encourage regular ripening of the grapes, underpinning the typicity of the Brunello di Montalcino made at the estate.
How it is made
The Sangiovese grapes ferment in stainless-steel tanks with about two weeks of skin maceration. Ageing continues for twelve months in French Allier oak tonneaux, followed by 24 months in Slavonian oak casks, before a further twelve months’ rest in bottle. This long, carefully crafted process builds the wine’s trademark structure and aromatic complexity.
Tasting notes
In the glass it shows a bright ruby red hue. On the nose, aromas of ripe cherry and small red fruits unfold, accompanied by delicate hints of wild herbs, spices and floral notes. The palate is supported by ripe fruit and velvety tannins, carrying a harmonious evolution through to a persistent finish, with a lingering marasca-cherry note on the aftertaste.
What it pairs with
This Brunello finds its ideal match with pasta with ragù and with roasts, but it also shows all its character alongside grilled meats and red meats in general. It also pairs well with braises and aged cheeses, where its structure and supple tannins find a balanced counterpoint.
When to serve it
Serve at a temperature between 16 and 18 °C, ideal for bringing out its aromatic complexity. It’s a wine suited to convivial meals at table, especially in the colder seasons, when its structure and warming character naturally complement hearty dishes.
