Description

What kind of wine it is

Badia a Coltibuono’s Chianti Classico Riserva is an elegant Tuscan red made from Sangiovese and other native varieties. The result of meticulous massal selections grown in the estate’s vineyards, this red shows a balanced style and a distinctly food-friendly nature. Spontaneous fermentation and skillful aging in wood shape its complex structure, delivering a sip with a generous, enveloping character and finely integrated tannins.

Where it comes from

This wine is born in the Chianti Classico area, where Badia a Coltibuono manages selected vineyards with great attention to biodiversity. The grapes come from plantings farmed with practices aimed at protecting the environment, which yield a distinct sense of place. The careful approach in the vineyard ensures a faithful reading of the terroir, guaranteeing a coherent stylistic expression and a pronounced sense of place.

How it is made

Vinification begins with a natural fermentation driven exclusively by indigenous yeasts. The must remains on the skins for at least three weeks, accompanied by manual punch-downs to achieve a calibrated extraction of color and aromatic components. The wine then ages for 24 months in French and Austrian oak casks, and completes its path with at least four months’ bottle aging before release.

Tasting notes

In the glass it shows a deep ruby red color with garnet highlights. The aromatic profile opens with balsamic notes, delicate floral nuances and clear echoes of aromatic herbs. On the palate it is enveloping, guided by a precise balance of freshness and structure. The sip is supported by a well-integrated tannic structure, leading the tasting toward a long finish and lasting persistence.

Food pairings

It pairs effortlessly with red meats, game, lamb and roast pork, as well as aged cheeses. Its acidity balances dishes based on mushrooms and truffle, and it is ideal with fusion cuisine. To honor its Tuscan roots, the quintessential regional pairing is Bistecca alla fiorentina, and it also marries perfectly with a traditional dish such as Peposo all’imprunetina, where the intense flavors echo the wine’s structure.

When to serve it

This red is the ideal option for those seeking a balanced profile at the table, able to support flavorful dishes with great reliability. Its time in wood ensures a solid harmony on the palate, making it enjoyable right away.
